Summary of UW Madison Findings
of the College Alcohol Study

1993–2007
(no data available for 2002 or 2006)

Confidence Intervals

Since the samples from each of the participating schools are relatively small, we strongly advise that any interpretation of change between survey years or of differences between a school and a comparison group made with great caution. We are providing binge drinking rates with 95% confidence limits to enable you to look at your schools results. For a difference to be statistically significant at the .05 level, the two confidence intervals must not overlap. Even if the differences are significant, the response rate must be considered in interpreting the data. Look carefully at the demographic characterics of the sample to see if they are representative of the school’s students.

*** 2007 is the first year the UW-Madison PACE Project administered the survey independently.
